Summary

A family reunion for the ages when two clans convene for the summer at their beloved getaway in the Catskills--perfect for fans of Dirty Dancing and The Marvelous Mrs。 Maisel--from the acclaimed author of The Floating Feldmans

In its heyday, The Golden Hotel was the crown jewel of the hotter-than-hot Catskills vacation scene。 For more than sixty years, the Goldman and Weingold families - best friends and business partners - have presided over this glamorous resort which served as a second home for well-heeled guests and celebrities。 But the Catskills are not what they used to be - and neither is the relationship between the Goldmans and the Weingolds。 As the facilities and management begin to fall apart, a tempting offer to sell forces the two families together again to make a heart-wrenching decision。 Can they save their beloved Golden or is it too late?

Long-buried secrets emerge, new dramas and financial scandal erupt, and everyone from the traditional grandparents to the millennial grandchildren wants a say in the hotel's future。 Business and pleasure clash in this fast-paced, hilarious, nostalgia-filled story, where the hotel owners rediscover the magic of a bygone era of nonstop fun even as they grapple with what may be their last resort。

This was a nice, refreshing, and easy read—perfect for summer and time on the beach! Filled with nostalgia of a time gone by, and family feuds—I loved it!

A lovely summer read packed with family drama。 This felt like a book version of the episodes from The Marvelous Miss Maisel that take place in the Catskills complete with feuding families, hair salon gossip sessions, matchmaking, big name performers and lots of intrigue around who’s sleeping with who。 I enjoyed the characters, even as i chafed at the old fashionedness of the older generation I appreciated that the author described their reactions to modernization in a way that felt realistic。 I A lovely summer read packed with family drama。 This felt like a book version of the episodes from The Marvelous Miss Maisel that take place in the Catskills complete with feuding families, hair salon gossip sessions, matchmaking, big name performers and lots of intrigue around who’s sleeping with who。 I enjoyed the characters, even as i chafed at the old fashionedness of the older generation I appreciated that the author described their reactions to modernization in a way that felt realistic。 I loved the ending and the way it felt like most of the loose ends were tied up。 。。。more

Fun summer read。

Really enjoyed it。

Absolutely loved this book。 Immediately picking hp another by Friedland。 Ironically I finished this on a weekend in the Catskills。 Kismet!

Sara

Surprisingly fun read。 These characters have no moral redemption to them, but it reminded me of “Community” meets “Dirty Dancing”

After watching the Marvelous Mrs。 Maisel and the episodes in the Catskills, I have been fascinated with the Jewish resorts during the middle of the 1900s。 This book is set during the present day when a family has to decide if they will sell their long-time resort to a casino corporation。 It is fun to hear the stories of how the resort was during the best days and during the days when it is old-fashioned and in disrepair。 It is told from various voices, funny, sad, and keeps you reading to see wh After watching the Marvelous Mrs。 Maisel and the episodes in the Catskills, I have been fascinated with the Jewish resorts during the middle of the 1900s。 This book is set during the present day when a family has to decide if they will sell their long-time resort to a casino corporation。 It is fun to hear the stories of how the resort was during the best days and during the days when it is old-fashioned and in disrepair。 It is told from various voices, funny, sad, and keeps you reading to see what happens next。 。。。more

This book was amazing! The characters were all great in their own way。 I loved the family dynamics! I loved the romance and the summer vibes! Absolutely stunning!

The perfect summer read。 Lots of characters, but I thought they all contributed to the story perfectly。 Three strong themes: 1) two families intertwined by the Golden Hotel, 2) lots of drama unfolds, and 3) old traditions uprooted by social media。 I thought this was a very smart book full of nostalgia。

This would probably get a 2。8, but I rounded up。 It was a cute book that made a fun summer read, but I wasn’t emotionally invested in the characters and the end dragged on a little too long。

Kaitlin

Meh。

Mona

Cute story, but not close to the real Catskills summers

Michelle McCormick

Fun summer read full of family dysfunction and nostalgia。

An absolute delight! Multiple generations of two families come together to decide whether to sell their joint owned hotel (with acres of appealing land in the Catskills)。 An ode to a former era, the hotel is the centerpiece of the story, rich with layers of relationships and personal drama。 Rotating narrators bring rich viewpoints to life, and nearly all of them are witty and sarcastic storytellers。 I laughed a lot, and it was exactly the book I expected when buying it!

3。5 - fun light read!

Amber

What a adorable book!

3。5 stars。 An engrossing tale of two multi-generational families and their nostalgia-steeped hotel in the “Jewish Alps。” There’s so many family secrets that at one point I felt like I was reading a soap opera, but the characters are well-rounded, the relationships deep, and the scenery sublime。

My favorite season of Amazing Mrs。 Maisel was when they summered in the Catskills。 This story is about a similar resort on its last legs。 I wished there were more flashbacks when the resort was at its splendor, but it was entertaining。 Predictable? Some what, but fine setting。 A fun summer read。

Such a fun book! When I picked this one from BOTM, I didn’t realize that was the same author as The Floating Feldmans, which I intensely disliked。 I’m glad I didn’t know because I would have missed out on this gem。 I am drawn to any book that revolves around a family business and the Catskills backdrop made it unique。 The author tells the story from the viewpoints of all three generations。 It is set mostly in the present but references the past glory days of the Golden Hotel frequently。 This is Such a fun book! This book made me feel warm and fuzzy。 It took me a few days to go through, but only because I wanted to savor the good-natured stories。

When I heard the words, "Dirty Dancing," I knew I had to move this up my list。 If you didn't love that movie, stop following me now as I don't know how we can be friends。 (Just kidding - well kind of)。 In all seriousness, long-buried secrets, family drama, and a clash between grandparents and millenials had me intrigued! Plus family, traditions and holding onto what the previous generation worked to buy/develop (aka my family farms) are part of who I am。 I had to read it!I can't say I loved any When I heard the words, "Dirty Dancing," I knew I had to move this up my list。 If you didn't love that movie, stop following me now as I don't know how we can be friends。 (Just kidding - well kind of)。 In all seriousness, long-buried secrets, family drama, and a clash between grandparents and millenials had me intrigued! There has to be at least one person or topic you can relate to in this book。 Additionally, I thought the book did an excellent job outlining so many current topics and made each generation relevant。 Learning more about the Jewish culture was a plus! I love experiencing other lives and cultures through books。 As I am currently reinventing and renovating my farm, I loved how this story played out。 I don't want to say more and spoil it for anyone。 We are in the heart of summer, so if you want summer vacation, a little drama and some nostalgia, pick up this book!VERDICT - 4 stars 。。。more

I liked the premise behind the book as far as this hotel being in the Catskills but past it's prime in today's world with the family debating whether to sell or revitalize。One of the main characters, Aimee, has a husband that is a physician turned drug pusher and three adult children。 At the beginning, the children bicker and are treated like actual young children which set me off。 I couldn't believe that the daughter was 29, about to be engaged and behaving like a 13 year old with her brother i I liked the premise behind the book as far as this hotel being in the Catskills but past it's prime in today's world with the family debating whether to sell or revitalize。One of the main characters, Aimee, has a husband that is a physician turned drug pusher and three adult children。 At the beginning, the children bicker and are treated like actual young children which set me off。 I couldn't believe that the daughter was 29, about to be engaged and behaving like a 13 year old with her brother in the back seat of the car。 However, despite some things that made some of the characters a little off putting, I did enjoy reading about the family traditions and how the next generation rallied to try to revive the dying hotel。 It was a good story, but I would have liked more depth to some of the people like the hotel had with it's history, memories and stories。 。。。more

Super fun, witty, light, easy, beach read about two generations within two different families thatshared a once glorious summer destination hotel。 When it was faced with dwindling reservations due to its lack luster decor, behind the times dining and entertainment, and potential sale to a casino, the 2nd generation steps up to the plate to try and save it。 Can they? And can their predecessors let them? 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s worth reading to find out。 This book was packed with lots of funny one liners to ma Super fun, witty, light, easy, beach read about two generations within two different families thatshared a once glorious summer destination hotel。 When it was faced with dwindling reservations due to its lack luster decor, behind the times dining and entertainment, and potential sale to a casino, the 2nd generation steps up to the plate to try and save it。 Can they? I’ve been reading/watching lots of books and shows lately that centre around the conflict between preserving history/ traditional ways of life and embracing the modern world through change/ development。 This book is no different。 Two families have to make the complicated decision to either hold on to the past or take a chance on the future。。。 On one hand, you are nostalgic for summer fun in the Catskills a la Dirty Dancing while at the same time wanting modern comforts and convenience such as AC I’ve been reading/watching lots of books and shows lately that centre around the conflict between preserving history/ traditional ways of life and embracing the modern world through change/ development。 This book is no different。 Two families have to make the complicated decision to either hold on to the past or take a chance on the future。。。 On one hand, you are nostalgic for summer fun in the Catskills a la Dirty Dancing while at the same time wanting modern comforts and convenience such as AC, wifi, and spas。 It’s a pickle for sure! I enjoyed hearing the stories of the Golden Hotel over the decades and learning what memories it held for each character。 There were some funny moments and definitely lots of secrets, drama, and intrigue, but I didn’t really feel I was experiencing them。 Maybe because there were so many points of views, it was hard to emotionally connect with any of the characters beyond a superficial level? Or maybe it was the way that details were written and revealed? Overall an enjoyable, but not absorbing read。 3。25 /5 ⭐️ 。。。more

3。5/5 - Overall a fun and easy read。 The wheels fell off a bit at the end for me, as it felt like the author was trying to rush too many things into the last 40 pages。 Still an enjoyable summer read I would recommend!

This was a wonderful summer read。 A grand hotel in the Catskills, two extended families who are brought back together to decide whether to sell。 This story has all the feels with the nostalgia of days gone by and the love and drama that goes along with families and long term friends。 Definitely recommend!

Bree

I’m not leaving a rating due to the fact that I didn’t finish the book。 I got around 40% through and then gave up。 I’d expected something a little more glamorous I guess but didn’t like the characters or the plot enough to stick around。

Terri

A carefree, easy read。 The characters are well developed and engaging。 Sweet homage to the Catskills。

Evie

Loved this book。 Highly recommend it for anyone who has been on a vacation in the Catskills。
